According to the North American HD DVD Promotional Group, the HD DVD format is currently the big winner of the stationary player market. After an aggressive spring campaign, more than 60% of all stationary HD players are currently of the HD DVD format. HD DVD has also caught up with the sales of movies and reached record sales in May. A big reason for the success of the HD DVD format is the lower prices, compared to the Blu-ray equivalents, and according to the HD DVD camp. Toshiba, which recently cut prices of its stationary HD DVD players is at the top of the sales list with its Toshiba HD-A2 player at Amazon.com.
Although, do remember where the figures are from; the North American HD DVD Promotional Group. But then again, the HD DVD camp is hardly more dishonest than the Blu-ray gang that has been releasing quite a lot of “we won” and “the race is over” messages citing the sales of its movies and players. It’s hard to say what the market looks like at the moment, but it’s pretty clear that none of the camps will give up anytome soon.
