Hiper has released its fifth generation of power supplies and marks it by launching the Type R MkII and Type M MkII series. The new Type R model, HPU-5K770, comes with a rated wattage of 770W with a peak load of 980W. It has four independent 12V power rails at up to 15A each (720W max) and has been both SLI and CrossFire certified. The new Type M model, HPU-5M730, has a rated wattage of 730W and a peak load at 930W. That’s 4 12V rails at 14A each, and it has also been SLi and CF certified.
Hiper has done something extra with these power supplies though. It has added four USB 2.0 to the back of the power supply (check the picture below) and an additional port for charging small portable devices, even when the computer is turned off. This could be rather handy, but perhaps a bit tricky to access. Hiper has rated both power supplies at 20dB during regular load, which isn’t a lot considering the amount of power they pack.
EZ-grip molex, P4 & P8 connectors along with ATX2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 compliance makes these two PSU rather complete. The only thing missing, which is a matter of personal opinion though, is the modular cables. Other than that we have to say that the new Type R and Type M models seems to live up to the reputation the previous PSUs of the series have built up. Don’t worry, the toolbox is still with us.
