Samsung has announced the creation of a 30″ monitor sporting the new DisplayPort interface. DisplayPort is a new standard, supported by VESA, that is suppose to replace the current DVI and VGA standards. DisplayPort has smaller and more convenient connectors and offers more than plenty of bandwidth, 10.8Gbps. This means that you only need one DisplayPort connector to supply the monitor with enough information to run a resolution of 2560×1600 at decent color depth. The 30″ monitor comes with a new interface chip that allows for 10 bit color depth. Usually this would require at least three DVI connectors to work, but now you only need one, smaller DisplayPort cable. The panel is Samsung’s latest S-PVA panel with 180 degrees viewing angle and 300 nits brightness, and the monitor will hit mass production the second quarter 2008.
