At two occasions we’ve reported about how Italian overclockers SFERA OC Team Italy first broke 8GHz and later improved the initial record to 8180MHz. It was the same Pentium 641 that first reached 8000MHz and later the new world record frequency of 8180MHz. However, it seems that there were even more to get from the processor in question. After mounting it on a Gigabyte P35-DQ6, pouring liquid nitrogen in the CPU pot, reaching as low as -170C, and upping the voltage to 1.95V, they managed to push the processor to a whopping 8320MHz. They would’ve continued even further if they hadn’t run out of liquid nitrogen.
The result has not been validated and the team discussed for long whether they would release this result to the public (as it wasn’t validated), but eventually decided to do so. They’ve published photos of the rig and the monitor screen where we can clearly see both the EasyTune 5 utility and CPU-Z displaying a processor frequency of 8320MHz (520×16). We see no reason to doubt the result as we know what both the processor and OC Team Italy are capable of. Congratulations to Italy for having such skilled overclockers and we’re very eager to see what they will do when they get a hold of some more liquid nitrogen.
