We’ve known for some time that AMD will launch two Barcelona-based processor on September 10. One running at 2.0Ghz and one at 1.9GHz. According to sources at motherboard manufacturers these will cost $320 and $390, DigiTimes reports. According to the same sources a third processor, Opteron 2354 (2.2GHz), will appear later the same month and cost $610, although it won’t be launched until October. During the fourth quarter even more Opterons running at above 2.0GHz frequencies will arrive in the shape of 2352, 2356, 2358 and 2360. The frequency increases by 100MHz with each model. The last two have a TDP of 120W, the remaining are of the 95W envelope.
As the names reveal these are all 2P server processors, but AMD intends to launch the 8XXX series as soon as possible, possibly this year already. Opteron 8348, 8350, 8352, 8354 and 8356 are all just mentioned by name, frequencies and thermal envelope remains untold. Although since we know AMD’s “new” PR rating by heart by now we can tell you that the frequencies of the 8 series are the same as the 2 series, it just tops out at 2.3GHz instead of 2.5GHz.
