Yesterday Kingpin decided finally published a 3DMark 06 score with his new Intel Core 2 QX6850 after first publishing a few teasers. He managed to reach 26,454 points thanks to a very high CPU frequency. Today, our own overclocking guru Kinc published his first score over 26,000. Marcus managed to reach 26,275 points. The setups are quite different as Kingpin uses two GeForcec 8800 Ultras and a Nforce 680i-based ASUS Striker Extreme, while Kinc uses two Radeon HD 2900 XTs along with ASUS Blitz Formula. The processor used by both is an Intel Core 2 QX6850 cooled by liquid nitrogen, as are the graphics cards.

Radeon HD 2900 XT whips the GeForce 8800 Ultra in both SM2.0 and SM3.0, but unfortunately there is a difference of 119MHz in Kingpin’s favor on the CPU. The difference that might appear small results in more than 500 points in the CPU tests.

Kinc had a score of 26,303 points, but it was lost. With X38 coming up there is certainly more to expect from Radeon HD 2900 XT.
