The last generations of graphics processors have all been built for PCI Express and you have to go way back before you find any native AGP support. However that hasn’t stopped third-party companies from designing AGP cards with low-end and mid-range circuits from both NVIDIA and ATI. Both the GeForce 7600 and Radeon X16x0 found their way to the AGP platform and so will also the newest GeForce 8600 series. According to sources to DigiTimes, NVIDIA is currently updating its PCIe-AGP bridge to support the GeForce 8 series, as well as the upcoming G92 and G98 cores. AMD/ATI is also rumored to have an updated AGP bridge on the way. It seems AGP owners will be able to keep their graphics performance up to par with the PCI Express users for another year or so, a lot longer than we had expected.
