You probably heard about the tragedy at the Games Convention and the loss of our dear QX6850. Well after some searching we may have found a worthy replacement. Last night Kinc decided to empty his cryo containers as he’s going a trip China to defend our blue and yellow colors in Gigabyte’s invitational. He installed the “new” Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 on the ASUS Blitz Extreme and after some tests pushing up the frequency higher and higher it showed a surprising amount of overclocking potential. With two cores disabled he managed to complete a round of SuperPi 1M at 5,504 MHz, and it was 3DMark stable at a whopping 5,387 MHz.
Even if 9.250 seconds is a respectable result, 34,562 with two Radeon HD 2900 XTs clocked at only 850/800 is even more so. This gem will be a key element in Marcus’ hunt for 35,000 points. With higher graphics card clocks it seems quite feasible even with the Blitz Extreme.
On the 15th Kinc will compete in Gigabyte’s overclocking competition and he will then be using the brand new Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6. If it can live up to the hype it shouldn’t take long before we will see some good results soon, but if it can’t we also have ASUS R.O.G. Maximus coming.
