Windows Vista had anything but a pain-free launch with its constant delays and harshly criticized backwards compatibility, not to mention the teething problems. But that hasn’t stopped it from slowly gaining market shares and as time has gone along, many of the problems with Vista have been remedied. According to the latest surveys Windows Vista gained quite a lot of market shares during September. The number of computers that are running Windows Vista was 7.38%, a whole percentage more than the month before. Windows XP is still the dominating operating system, but went down from 80% to 79.32%.

“If Windows Vista continues to gain momentum in the coming months, in December considerably more than 10% of personal computers will use the new OS from the world’s largest maker of software. However, further Vista’s market share increase may be restrained by Microsoft’s decision to allow customers to downgrade Vista to XP and to order the XP till mid-2008.”

Also Apple and its Mac OS X has had a positive trend, it increased from 6.15% to 6.61% during September.
