The PlayStation 3 40 GB model, with severely reduced backwards compatibility, was announced earlier this month. Sony had cut out all PlayStation 2 game support to save costs, but decided to keep the PlayStation 1 support. The number of USB ports have been reduced to two and the memory card reader have been removed altogether. The new model will cost €399, and at the same time Sony will reduce the price of the PlayStation 3 60 GB Starter Pack to $499. In the future there will only be the 40 GB model in Europe. Japan can at least comfort itself with a new color; Ceramic white, and the new rumble controller. Both the console and the new rumble controller will be available in white on November 11th. The controller will of course be available in black too.
