The new ForceWare 167.26 paints a different picture than what we’ve been told. In the drivers there a string for identifying the new GeForce 8800 GT as;
%NVIDIA_G92.DEV_0611.1% = nv4_NV3x, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0611
At least we assume it’s the 8800 GT the drivers are talking about as these are the drivers that have been used to post benchmarks with the upcoming circuit from NVIDIA. The launch is less than a week away, but until then we will just have to wait for confirmation. G92 still sounds weird for a circuit that’s not really high-end.
In a review published by Expreview.com we found this;
The review continues and compares the GeForce 8800 GT to other GeForce cards and the Radeon HD 2900 XT. The GeForce 8800 GT is faster than both 8800 GTS and 2900 XT in most of the benchmarks, but is still behind the GeForce 8800 GTX. Overall the GT seems to be a much better card than both the 2900 XT and the 8800 GTS.
Don’t forget that the 8800 GTS will be replaced by a new and faster version in November.
