Small preview image

DFI LanParty UT 790FX-M2R seems to be the next motherboard to come from enthusiast motherboard maker DFI. The board is based on the AMD RD790 chipset, also known as 790FX, and is thus for AMD’s socket AM2+ processors. The board has three PCIe x16 slots for CrossFire X support (only TriFire though) and use pretty much the same cooling as the DFI LanParty UT NF680i SLI-T2R with rails on the southbridge and mosfet heatsinks. The rails can be used to extend the cooling with an additional heatsink. The minimal use of heatpipes is quite appealing, and the clean I/O panel is always a plus.

The picture posted at Korean site nowpug.com doesn’t exactly reveal any revolutionizing news, but still shows the basic layout of the board and that DFI is still going its own way. The board has one PCIe 4x slot, three PCI slots, post code LED, the now fairly common on-board power and reset buttons, dual Gb LAN, SATA II with RAID 0,1,5, Firewire, and 8 channel HD audio.

The board is expected to arrive next month at best and will be accompanied by DFI LanParty UT 790FX-M2RV, which is basically the same board but with a VoIP card. The boards are estimated to cost slightly more than €200. All we need now is a competitive processor to put in the socket.
