Ion wind cooler 3.0

Small preview image

A while back we reported about a rather ingenious type of cooling based on ionic winds. This kind of cooling is completely noiseless as it lacks any kind of moving parts. Airflow is generated through the movement of ions instead of fan blades. Last time I checked ions don’t make noise, fans on the other hand do. The previous two Ion Coolers posted at InventGeek were well recevied and there were no plans for a third one, but after being covered in e-mails asking for a third and more modest cooler, they decided to create a third and perhaps last Ion Wind Cooler.

Using the heatsink from a Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 they were able to create a pretty decent CPU cooler, but most important of all it is completely silent. The project requires some slight handyman skills and minor equipment, but overall it’s a fairly simple project for the fastidious and crafty user.
