NVIDIA France has made an official statement to French hardware site PCInpact.com confirming that nForce 680i will never get 45 nm quad-core support, just 45 nm dual-core. They don’t say it out loud, but indirectly confirms that the problem is not chipset-related, but due to the layout. This also means that the “new” nForce 7 chipset supports Yorkfield, in fact it means that the nForce 680i chipset also supports Yorkfield, but the current motherboards don’t. NVIDIA is currently working on fixing this with the upcoming nForce 7 series. When the new motherboards are suppose to arrive is still a bit of am mystery, but the last we heard it’s still the middle of December they’re set for.
