We’ve known for long that NVIDIA was planning to upgrade the GeForce 8800GTS chip after the successful launch of the 8800GT. NVIDIA made more fuzz than was first suggested, but that doesn’t matter, because the partners have been boasting their own cards far and wide. Practically all graphics card manufacturers and NVIDIA partners have announced new GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB cards. The cards are all based on the same G92 core and 256-bit memory bus as GeForce 8800GT, but with an additional cluster of 16 shaders.
GeForce 8800GTS has a core clock of 650 MHz and a shader frequency of 1625 MHz. The 512 MB GDDR3 memory runs at 1940 MHz.
The card sports PCI Express 2.0, PureVideo HD, Shader Model 4.1 and DX10. The 65nm core consumes less power and performs better than the predecessor by the same name, and finally the GTS is faster than the GT. The price is around $370, which is significantly higher than the 8800GT at ~$220.
