The Dell Crystal concept monitor was unveiled back in January of last year, and sporting DisplayPort and a quite spectacular design it got a lot of attention. Since then there have been a few more reports on the concept monitor, which has only boosted the interest for this clean and stylish monitor. As more and more DisplayPort compatible graphics cards have appeared, Dell has finally decided to launch the rather unique monitor. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out where the name comes from though. Even if the innovative design is in the center of attention, there is plenty of technology beneath the 4mm thick sheet of glass to main interest after you get accustomed to it.
Dell Crystal sports a 22″ LCD panel with 1680×1050 pixel resolution, which has a 2ms response time and a 2000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. Dell has integrated a 2MPixel web camera and speakers into the frame of the monitor.
But as usual you have to pay up to stay on top. Dell Crystal costs $1,199 USD, which is really expensive for a 22″ monitor. It would be nice to see some reviews of Crystal to see how it performs, and if it is actually even close to being worth the money.
