Microsoft has said that we should expect Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista sometime during the first quarter of 2008 and it seems that Microsoft is aiming to release Vista SP1 in just a few weeks. Service Pack 1 is slated for the middle of February.

“Chris Swenson, director of software industry analysis for the NPD Group, said that analysts have heard Feb. 15 as the target for SP1, but it’s not something Microsoft would confirm publicly to give itself time to make adjustments in case of negative feedback on the current release of the software.”

We can’t say we’re surprised by this. Microsoft wants to release Vista SP1 as soon as possible, as there are quite a lot of companies and organizations waiting for the release of SP1 before upgrading to Windows Vista. Whether the service pack will actually arrive in the middle of February remains to be seen, but as the last release candidate is quite stable, an early release sounds quite feasible.
