CoolIT Systems has, just like Danger Den, realized that AMD’s new flagship Radeon HD 3870 X2 could use some extra cooling. We posted pictures of the Danger Den 3870 X2 water block prototype earlier today, but CoolIT has now announced a block ready for sale. The block is surprisingly small actually, but this simple design has proven to work in the past and in the end it’s the performance that matters. Looks aren’t everything (seriously!).
CoolIT Systems says that its specially designed water block will reduce temperatures significantly and expand the overclocking headroom.
“CoolIT Systems debuts the third installment in the Reference Series line of liquid cooling systems designed to quietly and effectively cool Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.’s highly anticipated performance graphic cards, the ATI Radeon™ HD 3870 X2. In recent testing, the liquid cooled cards were stably clocked up to over 900MHz core clock speed and the memory pushed to 1GHz with no thermal issues.”
It remains to be seen how CoolIT Systems’ water block performs in comparison to other water blocks, but hopefully we don’t have to wait for long until the first samples appears.
