The HD DVD camp is not in a good place right now. Surveys have shown a great decline in player sales, but just like Blu-ray, there is a trump in the form of a “next generation” video game console. Blu-ray have PlayStation 3 which alone carried the Blu-ray format during the first year, but HD DVD have an external player for the Xbox 360, and the external player is actually the best selling HD DVD player. It makes up more than one third of the player sales.
Whether Amazon is trying to empty out the stock or actually trying to give HD DVD a boost, it has cut the price of the Xbox 360 HD DVD player to $80 and that includes 6 HD DVD movies of your choice.
Update: The news spread so fast that Amazon sold out almost instantaneously. Sorry we missed it.
