Full HD is becoming more and more common with LCD TVs. Even smaller-sized TVs are getting full HD nowadays. Although, the actual use for Full HD with anything less than 40″ is being argued. Full HD with notebooks is something that has been limited to 17″ and above when it comes to notebooks, and not the least the high-end multimedia and gaming laptops. Samsung was planning to being mass production of its first 16″ Full HD displays in Q1, but had to postpone. Sources to DigiTimes are now saying that the mass production will instead start in Q3.

However, the first laptops using the new 16″ display will be presented already in Q2. Several partners have been requesting the panel and are aiming to have laptops ready for CES in June. Both Acer and HP are expected to have laptops ready by then, Acer will receive the first samples in April, sources say.

Samsung’s 16″ 1920×1080 panel will cost $60-70 more than your average 15″ WUXGA, and even though this will bring more Full HD notebooks to the market, it will remain an extreme high-end feature. Notebooks sporting these displays are namely expected to sport Blu-ray drives and overall powerful components, which makes them very exclusive.
