NVIDIA is set to announce three new GeForce 9800 cards on March 18. First of all we have the GeForce 9800GX2, which have been the main attraction in more than a few booths at CeBIT. Following the dual-PCB card, NVIDIA has the GeForce 9800GTX and the GeForce 9800GTS. All of these are based on the G92 core, which means 256-bit memory bus and GDDR3 memory. Pictures of a naked GeForce 9800GTX have surfaced and reveal the much smaller core, but also a reworked PWM, which looks like it could help when overclocking.

Below is a table with the soon to be released cards and the GeForce 8800GTS for comparison;

Card Core clock Mem. clock Shaders Shader clock
GeForce 9800GX2 600MHz 1800MHz 2×128 1500MHz
GeForce 9800GTX 675MHz 2000MHz 128 1688MHz
GeForce 9800GTS 600MHz 1800MHz 128 1500MHz
GeForce 8800GTS 675MHz 1984MHz 128 1688MHz

Not exactly staggering specifications, but the better PWM sure looks promising. With the G80 out of the picture, people will be forced to buy cards of the GeForce 9 series. Considering they are more energy efficient, although slightly lower clocked, there will most likely be plenty of factory-overclocked cards from NVIDIA partners.
