AMD is currently working on getting the last few pieces of the 45nm puzzle in place. The first processor to hit the market should be based on the Deneb quad-core. This processor was benchmarked and overclocked a while back, and engineering samples have been starting to find their way to more and more people with access to the black market. More tests have followed now, this time focusing on the power draw and they are certainly impressive.

With an identical system, the 45nm Deneb processor consumed 12% less power than the 65nm Phenom 9600 processor. Both processors operate at 2.3GHz. When idle the Deneb system consumed 147W compared to 154W for the 65nm system. During load the Deneb system power consumption rose to 176W, while the 65nm system peaked at 200W. A reduction of 12%, nothing but impressive.
