We have seen a couple of comparisons of VIA’s and Intel’s ultraportable processors, Nano and Atom. Most of them have pointed to VIA Nano being the most powerful of the two and with this backing it up, VIA has released some PR material showing off the new power-efficient processor. It has namely released a video where it has compared the VIA Nano processor to Intel’s Atom processor, and it’s not without giving Intel a kick or two when lying down.
The most interesting bit is of course the benchmarks and here VIA has set up two systems, one with a VIA Nano 1.3GHz processor and one with an Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor. It then plays a video clip encoded at 1080p in Windows Media Player to see the playback performance. The video looks alright on with the Nano system, while the Atom-based PC has some serious problems making the video look more like a slide show than a film.
Unfortunately there is no detailed information about the systems, whether the graphics circuits were involved or not, but it almost has to be something like that. Otherwise the video would contradict the results found in other, neutral tests.
