Catalyst 8.8 has been released and the eight edition of the year focuses on video features, but also added support for Hybrid Graphics. Users will be able to connect AMD’s integrated graphics (780C, 780G, 790GX) with discrete cards like Radeon HD 3400 and Radeon HD 2400 for improved 3D performance. The support has only been available on Windows Vista, but will now also work on Windows XP. AMD also expanded the features of AVIVO with better color and light reproduction (on Radeon HD 4800) but also support for adjusting the sharpness during video playback.
The new Catalyst drivers also bring a number of bug fixes and performance improvements in games and other applications.
It also worth mentioning that the Linux drivers have been overhauled to bring additional features such as CrossFire with the Radeon HD 4800 series, ATI OverDrive and Adaptive Anti-Aliasing.
More information on Catalyst 8.8 can be found in the release notes and the new drivers can be downloaded from AMD’s website.
