AMD is moving forward with its graphics drivers and when Catalyst 8.10 arrive before the end of the month it will not only bring bug fixes and performance optimizations, but also one highly longed for feature, manual fan control. The Catalyst Control Center Overdrive tool can take control of the fan and set it at a specific speed that should work best for you. Certainly a good feature, but it would have been even better if you could modify the automatic profiles.
From what it seems, the user has to set the speed manually each time they want to set the fan speed, which might become a bit annoying if you switch between high loads and idle modes more often than not.
Over at the Rage3D forum they have download links for the latest beta driver, use at your own risk, and also share some of their experiences with the new driver.
