The depression is clearly affecting the PC market and new information suggests that several of the ten largest PC builders will lower their order volumes by as much as 50% during the first quarter of 2009, year to year. The mentioned include Hewlett-Packard, Acer, Asustek and Dell. The fear of being left with a large stock of unsellable computers have made several of the world’s largest PC builders to rethink their plans for 2009.

They expect sales of both desktops and notebooks to drop substantially in the first quarter. Though the netbook sales are expected to see a continued growth. These small and cheap computers may very well be the best survivors as consumers will spend carefully in the year to come.
