It’s no secret that Fujitsu is looking to cut off its harddrive operations and last we heard it was Western Digital that was looking to acquire. It seems that a deal is close, but with a different buyer. Toshiba has taken over the discussion and intends to buy Fujitsu’s harddrive manufacturing and belonging sales network. An operation that among others includes two harddrive plants in the Philippines and Thailand.

It’s not just the buyer that has changed, but also the price that has come down quite drastically, from an estimated $1 billion, when WD was interested, to between $335-450 million.

According to sources to Reuters the parties will meet this week and if they reach an agreement we should see an announcement before the end of the month. This would make Toshiba the world’s biggest manufacturer of small harddrives.
