India developing $10 laptop

Contrary to what manufacturers had hoped, OLPC hasn’t been selling all that well in the developing world. One hundred dollars may not be that much money to us in the developed part of the world, but it’s still a lot to them. That’s why India is about to develop an alternative. Students and scientists at research institute Vellore Institute of Technology and Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, have been working a computer that will cost as little as $10! This is needed to reach out to the entire population of India. It currently costs about $20, but when mass produced the developers expects to reach the promised price. The only known specification is that it will use 2GB flash-based storage. An interesting project we will try to keep you posted on.
