Google’s Android platform is so far only available with mobile phones from High Tech Computers (HTC). HTC looks to gain some competition in the third quarter though, when electronics giant Samsung Electronics is said to announce its first Android-based mobile phones. The information has been posted by Taiwanese DigiTimes and has not been confirmed by Samsung but would it be correct Samsung will the first of the five big mobile phone manufacturers to adopt Google’s new platform. It does sound plausible since we reported on Samsung’s Android phones back in December already.
Samsung’s first model is said to be similar to HTC’s coming Magic unit, both in terms of hardware and design. Since HTC is already shipping its HTC T-Mobile G1 (also known as HTC Dream) it holds a certain advantage on the market, especially as it will announce the HTC Magic in the second quarter.
