World’s biggest software developer Microsoft have been running the market more or less and presented positive numbers month after month, year after year. The competition is getting tougher though and even if Microsoft is still many times larger than any competitor it has now presented the first decrease in sales, year to year, in 23 year. The revenue for $Q3 2008 was 13.65 billion, a decrease by 6%.

The reason was because the company operating income dropped by 32 percent, down to $4.44 billion, $2.98 billion net, and $0.33 per share.

“Revenue in Client, Microsoft Business Division, and Server & Tools was negatively impacted by weakness in the global PC and Server markets. Revenue from enterprise customers remained stable during the quarter.”

Microsoft has revealed that the development of Windows 7 is going according to plans and that the launch in the second half of 2009 stands firm.
