MSI was one of the first to jump at the idea of really thin notebooks that doesn’t cost a minor fortune. System builders like Apple, Dell and VoodooPC have all launched superthin notebooks but the price tags are anything but appealing. MSI has managed to build truly thin notebooks with its X-Slim series, which despite respectable specifications is reasonably priced. Even though the price is higher than the first leaked, below 1000 USD, it is still a lot cheaper than any similar notebook.

MSI X-Slim X340 is the first model and even if we have a good grasp of what to find inside the case, it’s always interesting to see how MSI managed to fit it all inside such a slim case. At UMPC Fever they have done us all a great service by tearing a X340 laptop apart.

Somewhat surprisingly there is actually some empty space left in the case, at least on the sides. It’s pretty obvious to why it is anything but easy to design really thin computers with cooling and other components that are hard to shrink all too much.
