Samsung is a leading memory manufacturer and it has been on the DDR3 offense lately. Samsung has cut prices of its DDR3 modules almost down to DDR2 levels. The difference has moved from $3-5 but is now down to less than $1 and Samsung’s new price cuts will force other actors to lower DDR3 module prices, making it hard to make ends meet. According to sources at Taiwanese memory manufacturers the new prices will be troublesome for Hynix, Elpida and Micron.

It’s hard to say what Samsung’s price war will do to the DDR3 market, but it was just a matter of time before DDR3 would come down to DDR2 levels now that both Intel and AMD has upgraded to support the latest generation of memory technology.
