PhotoFast G-Monster V5 SSD even does 4K writes well

PhotoFast continues to shine with its impressive Solid State Drives and its G-Monster-V5 has specifications that impress in many ways. With 256GB storage there is plenty of space for those who need it, but the rated performance is of course the real attention grabber where there drive promises read and write speeds of 270MB/s, which is on the verge of what the SATA II interface can do, in theory. This is accomplished with a flash memory controller from Indilinx and 128MB DRAM cache.

Even if the maximal data transfer rates are impressive they necessarily don’t say much about the performance at everyday use. However, performance where small files are used, often weighing in at 4Kb or less, are just as impressive.

PhotoFast promises 21MB/s 4K write speed, which may not sound all that impressive but this is only matched by Intel today and the rest is of the seemingly fast SSD are only offer fractions of that speed.

This is achieved by configuring the V5 drive in RAID 0 array, but unlike the larger 3.5″ Workstation Edition, G-Monster-V5 use the smaller 2.5″ format.

We hope to see more of Japanese PhotoFast and that its products reach more stores here in Europe as they clearly sport performance worthy of the best.
