There have been some concern surrounding the lifespan of Solid State Drives. NAND flash memory circuits have a limited amount of writes and even if they can handle many thousands and thousands of writes and clever algorithms spread the data across the SSD memory cells people have been questioning the warranty times of SSDs. One of the most active actors, OCZ, have shown a serious dedication and prolonged the warranty from 2 to 3 years with both the Vertex and Summit families.
The improved warranty will cover all new and already sold drives within the families and OCZ says that it has simply realized that the drives have a considerably longer lifespan than previously estimated.
“There is no “preemptive” solution to any concern, the bottom line is that performance in the field and extended testing has proven that OCZ is able to support a longer warranty with the intention of adding value and increased peace of mind to customers. Extending the warranty makes the OCZ total solution even more robust for consumers, and we believe that product quality should always come first, and the confidence to back up that quality with a longer than industry average warranty is the least we can do for our customers.”
An admirable move by OCZ since most competitors are settling for 2 year warranties with their SSDs.
