Harddrive maker Hitachi GST has been a pioneer breaking new storage records. Hitachi has never been afraid of using up to five separate platters, where most drives don’t have more than four. But when the harddrive industry moved into the Terabyte era Hitachi lost its position and today it is still stuck at 1TB drives here in the North. It looks like there is a 2TB model coming though, since it has been listed online (via Xtreview).
There is no information on the new 2TB model at Hitachi’s own website, but Hitachi HD32000IDK7 will be the new flagship of the Deskstar family. Beside the 2TB capacity, the harddrive sports 7200 RPM rotational speed and the SATA II interface.
The price at JR.com is $269.99, which fits well with competing drives from Western Digital and Seagate. Western Digital’s Caviar Green is actually slightly more expensive.
