Among AMD graphics cards it has been Radeon HD 4890 and 4770 that have been in the majority of news reports lately, but the card announced by ASUS is the ol’ faithful Radeon HD 4870. It has moved away from AMD’s reference design and blessed the card, called EAH4870/HTDI/1GD5, with a new copper cooler. The Glaciator+ cooler will keep temperatures around 12°C lower than AMD’s reference cooler.
But it has not altered the the clock frequencies of the card, but they have remained at the stock clocks of 750MHz GPU and 3600MHz memory. The 1GB GDDR5 memory and two DVI-D outputs, that can be converted to HDMI output with bundled adapter, makes the card a bit generic though.
It is already available in stores and costs around $170. More information at ASUS’ website.
