AMD recently expanded the assortment of budget processors by launching its first 45nm Athlon II processors. The top model of the series is the Athlon II X2 250 that boosts 3.0GHz clock frequency and dual cores. All current models are dual-cores and sold as Athlon II X2 processors, but now component maker MSI has revealed that there are also tri-core and quad-core Athlon II models coming.

Among its motherboard specifications, MSI has published a list of no less than ten new Athlon II models with information on clock frequencies and TDP rating, completed with the number of cores by the source. Just like other Athlon II processors the new processors lacks any kind of L3 cache and even if there are no prices mentioned we expect them to be very competitive.

Among the new models we find two dual-cores, four tri-cores and four quad-cores. The processors are exclusive to AMD’s Socket AM3 platform and are rated at 45W or 95W.
