Even if AMD’s first 40nm graphics circuit is still nearly impossible to get a hold of, we now hear of plans to introduce a new card based on the RV740 core. The graphics card is called Radeon HD 4750 and with AMD’s 40nm GPU it will be fairly similar to the older HD 4770. AMD is said to be planning 800MHz GDDR5 memory (3200MHz effectively), which is the same as the 4770 model, but the core of the card will be clocked lower, somewhere around 730MHz. This has enabled AMD to remove the extra 6-pin power connector.
The card thus consumes less power, but it also limits the overclocking. Exactly when AMD will let loose the the new 40nm card is uncertain, but most likely very soon and in small volumes.
