When Steve Jobs founded Apple in the 70’s it was together with Steve Wozniak. The same man has now been appointed Chief Scientist at Solid State company Fusion-IO and at ComputerWorld they had a chat with Wozniak and his new assignment and the future of Solid State technology. Fusion-IO is one of the leading manufacturers of SSD solutions for businesses and Wozniak goes so far to compare his current employer to the early years of Apple.
That Steve Wozniak has great faith in Solid State technology as a whole is no secret, but at the same time he says that we may not completely understand how big effect SSD will have on our regular day lives, but at the same time that mechanical drives are far from doomed.
I’ve been associated with an awful lot of start-ups, my own and others, and I’ve never seen one growing this fast and successfully since Apple.
At least with the corporate market where you often have to store large amounts of data that are not used that often. In other words, mechanical drives will still rock the quantity segment of the industry, while SSD will take over for “active” storage.
