Active Media has presented a new series of Solid State Drives called Predator-X7. Beside the scary name it has chosen to work with a rather infamous memory controller developer. Under the coating Predator-X7 sports a NAND flash memory controller from JMicron that will steer the memory circuits. JMicron’s first generation memory controller was anything but praised, but hopefully things have improved with the new model, JMicron JM612.

Active Media has presented some competitive specifications for the Predator-X7 series with read and write speeds at 230MB/s and 180MB/s respectively, and 128MB DRAM memory cache to eliminate stuttering, something the first generation controllers were pretty bad at, but also a mini-USB port that allows users to do firmware upgrades.

The Solid State Drives will also sport functionalist to reduce tearing of the memory cells and offer hardware level error correction.

Four models will start shipping in November with 32GB (~$150), 64GB (~$220), 128GB (~$350) and 256GB (~$700) capacity.
