Where SATA 6Gbps has disappointed us so far, USB 3.0 still has time to impress us. Though the hardware support hasn’t been exactly overwhelming. Intel has been harshly criticized for moving its introduction of integrated USB 3.0 support, though its chipsets, into 2011. However, it looks like AMD is just as bad as Intel.
AMD will launch its first processor with integrated graphics in 2011. Llano will be made with 32 nanometer SOI technology and bring with it a new platform called Lynx.
The Lynx platform also house a new southbridge, Hudson D2, beside the Llano processor, that will also be the first with native support for the USB 3.0 interface, Fudzilla reports.
Just like Intel, AMD forces motherboard manufacturers to add USB 3.0 support through external chips up until 2011. The SB850 southbridge will launch next year sporting SATA 6Gbps and 14 USB 2.0 ports, but no USB 3.0 support.
