Memory manufacturer Kingston offers a lot of Solid State Drives, many a result of its close work together with Intel as Kingston sells Intel SSDs under its own brand. During a recent event we found out more about its plans for the future and a frequently occurring topic was future formfactors. Today, the most common is 2.5″ that is used by notebooks and such, but as our computers shrink the storage needs to follow.

Kingston announced that it will present bigger, storage wise, SSDs next year, up to 512GB, but it will also introduce physically smaller drives. Kingston is planning to announce 1.8″ SSDs that among others would become interesting choice for portable media players, or perhaps even very small notebooks.

Exactly what kind of technology it will contain isn’t set yet, but Kingston currently has drives from three different manufacturers in its assortment. Beside Intel there is also Samsung and Toshiba, where both Toshiba and Intel offers 1.8″ drives today.
