Apple iMac Core i7 problems, cracked monitors, DOA

Apple made a big upgrade of its iMac series some time ago, now sporting Intel Core i7 processors. While performance has spread joy among users, the broken displays and units being DOA (Dead On Arrival) have done the opposite. Cracks in the delicate 27″ display are usually found in the lower left corner. Something that could be the result of the packaging process, since the boxes have looked unharmed.

There are many reports of cracks in Apple’s new iMac but also those who have had the bad luck of units that even refuse to start.

Even if Apple will be helping customers to return their damaged or dead units it can take up to two weeks until they get a new computer, which has given rise to a certain amount of irritation among users. Exactly how common the problems is hard to say but new reports appears at a steady rate in Apple’s support forum.
