One of the most affordable Solid State Drives on the market is Intel’s new X25-V series where the lone 40GB model is one of the cheapest ways to getting a SSD. Forty Gigabytes may be enough for a simple Windows installation, but for a often used PC it’s not quite enough. Intel is said to be planning a X25-V model with twice the capacity, 80GB, before Q4 2010.

With more NAND flash chips it tends for better performance. The price tag will be small and our estimations would be around $100, the same as the 40GB model costs today. Much thanks to the more efficient manufacturing technology, most likely 28nm.

At the same time the X25-M and E series will be upgraded where we have heard rumors of a 600GB version of X25-M.
