NVIDIA shipped merely 100,000 Tegra system chips in 2009, but that didn’t stop the graphics circuit maker from arranging a big show at CES where much was about the new Tegra 2 family. According to analysts there are good reasons for NVIDIA’s enthusiasm and the primary is the company’s decision to work with the car industry, especially the Volkswagen group (VAG) with brands like Audi, Lamborghini and Bentley.

Market analysts claims that NVIDIA will have improved the sales of Tegra units by 2.5-3.0 million by 2012 and half of this will go into the auto industry as Audi is expected to use Tegra in more or less all model programs. The remaining 1.0-1.5 million Tegra circuits will appear in smartphones, mobile media player and smaller PCs.

This year already NVIDIA is expected to increase the sales fivefold to 500,000 shipped units and with the specifications of Tegra revealed it does look like product with plenty of potential.
