Reports from several sources says that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has finally come through the storm and got its 40nm yields under control. It has taken a long time, but TSMC now says that the problems have been resolved and the yields are up to much higher levels.

When talking to graphics card makers we have had it confirmed that the manufacturing yields for AMD’s 40nm Evergreen family is nowadays over 70%, which isn’t optimal but still a lot better than some of the earlier sad numbers we’ve been hearing.

Yield specifies the amount of working dies per wafer. In others words, they still have to throw away 30% of all made 40nm circuits and even if there is always a certain amount of defects TSMC’s 40nm technology have been problematic, and the numbers used to be reversed.
