Solid State market continues to grow but even the news are plenty the sales volumes was hardly a reflection of that. Now that IDC has presented the sales of solid state drives for 2009 it shows that 11 million SSD were shipped during the whole year, an increase by 14% since 2008.
During just the fourth quarter 152 million mechanical harddrives shipped, which can be extrapolated to around 600 million over the whole new year.
The future of the SSD industry is bright says IDC. The market is expected to grow significantly over the coming years and the key is lower prices where new technologies will bring more efficient more spacious circuits while also keeping manufacturing costs down.
Up until 2013 the SSD market is expected to grow another 54 percent and then mainly in the performance segment.
