Icy Dock MB561US-4S-1 is an external storage solution that physically looks like any NAS, although a slim one. It has four 3.5″ slots and really just a DAS, Direct Attached Storage, used to quickly increase storage capacity. Icy Dock’s new DAS unit can be connected to a computer using eSATA or USB and offers full access to all four individual drives.

The technology is well suitable for home servers where commercial solution are often limited to four slots, and this is where Icy Dock claims its new DAS is a quick and easy way to double capacity.

Icy Dock MB561US-4S-1 measures 234.9 x 141 x 175 mm and holds four  hotswappable SATA drives with 8TB total capacity. A passive power supply and 80mm fan will keep the drive quiet and a somewhat modern design may attract users too.

Icy Dock MB561US-4S-1 replace the older sibling (same name sans -1). The new models sports fan control and should cost about the same, around €270.
