GeForce GTX 460 will appear in stores in just a few weeks when NVIDIA releases its first Fermi-based mid-range card on July 12th. The graphics card manufacturer is currently preparing the launch of the card and its GF104 GPU.

GeForce GTX 460 will become the fourth card of NVIDIA’s Fermi card and it is the first to be based on a new graphics circuit. Previous models have used the beafy and advanced GF100 GPU sporting over 3 billion transistors, massive power consumption and big price tag.

Performance is there and now NVIDIA hopes to make better by bringing the better aspects of the Fermi architecture to the mid-range segment, by cutting some hundred million transistors and thus lower both power consumption and performance potential.

Previous stories have spoken of two models; GTX 460 with 1024MB and 768MB graphics memory. Other specifications shows higher GPU clock frequencies and performance similar to GeForce GTX 465, even through a limited number of CUDA processors, supposedly 336 with GF104.

On July 12 the new cards will be available in stores and the price is still a bit foggy, but with performance on the level with GTX 465 prices will be around the same, slightly over $200 but less than $250.
