Samsung continues to broaden its assortment of harddrives and the new EcoGreen F4 series is more efficient than any previous series. With higher storage density it only needs three platters to reach a total capacity of 2 Terabyte.
EcoGreen F4 launches with capacities of 1.5 TB and 2.0 TB capacities. With 667 GB platters it only needs three platters to reach maximal capacity, something that lowers power consumption by 23 percent when idle, compared to precursor EcoGreen F3, while performance should be up 19 percent.
Samsung has also reduced hazardous materials from the circuit boards and EcoGreen F4 follows all global environmental laws, including ROHS. The series also has SilentSeek and NoiseGuard to minimize noise at use.
With the SATA 3.0 Gbps interface and 32MB memory buffer the new drives will start selling at $120 in September.
